The Cotton Poplin is the most popular fabric to print on with quilters. This cotton is 200 thread count, just like your regular quilt fabric. This fabric has a flat, bright white, tightly woven face which allows for a wonderful print. Due to its flat face very little of the natural weave interferes with seeing the pattern.

This fabric is 8.5" x 11" and already backed on paper. In order to print on this fabric all you need to do is insert it in your inject printer.

Why print directly on your fabric instead of a heat transfer?
The reason to print directly on your fabric is a matter of permanence. If you use a heat transfer the photo is actually printed on the heat transfer sheet. None of the ink is actually on the fabric. With your picture printed directly into the fibers of the fabric you will get a much more vibrant and longer lasting picture. With as much time and effort that you put into your quilt, your photo's should last as long as it does.
Is the picture washable after it is printed?
Yes, the picture is permanent once it has COMPLETELY dried and can be washed in your washing machine. There are a couple of things to keep in mind, just like your most expensive garments will fade if you wash them a lot so will your photograph. In this respect printing on fabric is just like silk screening, though it is incredibly durable, nothing lasts forever.
Can I use any printer to print on fabric?
You can use almost any ink jet printer to print on fabric, you CANNOT use a laser printer. Laser printers use a laser to bond a powder to your paper, this will not adhere to your fabric, you could even damage your print depending on how hot the laser gets.
What kind of printer/ink do you suggest?
We use an Epson 7-ink system and an HP 4-ink system. With the Epson we use the UltraChrome K3 inks and in the HP we use their UV ink system. Both of these inks are pigment based no dye based. Dye based inks do not hold up against the sunlight as well as the pigment inks. If your quilt is going to be displayed your ink must be able to handle the sunlight. There is a trade off however. The pigment inks do not give you the level of detail that dye inks can provide, however it is darn close. Unless you are going to do a very large print (ex. 24" x 36" or 18" x 24") this in not something you are going to notice. There is no difference if you are going to print a 5 x 7 or even an 8 x 10 photo.
Do you sell printable fabric that is wider than 8.5"?
Yes we do sell wider fabric, however we do not carry it in stock. Because most individuals only print smaller photos and most home printers handle only 8.5" x 11" or 8.5" by 14" we carry this most popular size in stock.
